Ernest West

He was born in Moulins, France in 1828. He returned to England in 1843. He initially worked in an office found this did not suit him so he decided to go to sea, joining the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company. He rose quickly in the service and obtained a command at quite a young age.

He never married and died in Camden in 1876. He is buried in Guildford.
