Annie Florence Pitcairn West

Annie was born in Ireland in 1859 and married the brother of her sister-in-law, Edward Aman, in Dublin in 1883. They moved to England and lived as different places including Chislehurst in Kent, Gretton in Gloucestershire and finally at Churt in Surrey.

In the early 1900's she became interested in genealogy and started researching and documenting her family's history. Her notebooks are a testament to her energy and perseverance. She travelled extensively throughout England and Ireland to view records and family heirlooms. She seemed convinced that there was a link between her West family and the Delawarr family and although she found a significant amount of circumstantial evidence any conclusive proof seems to have evaded her.

She was the driving force behind the plan to erect a tablet in the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks to her grandfather Charles Augustus West and great uncle Charles Edward West. The total cost was £22 and this was paid by voluntary donations by members of the family. The tablet was erected in December 1909.

She died in London in 1939 and is buried in Richmond cemetry.. There are approximately 11 boxes of her notebooks etc available for inspection in the library of the Society Of Genealogists.
