Harriet Dalbiac

She was born in London in 1775, the youngest daughter of Charles James Dalbiac and Anne Le Bas. The Dalbiacs were descended from an old French family who had large possessions in the south of France. Like many other Huguenot families, the Dalbiacs fled to England following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685.

She married James Pitcairn in 1803 and bore 10 children. She died of cholera in 1832 following an outbreak of the disease in Cork. Because of the great fear surrounding this contagious disease her husband and friends had to dig her grave themselves and lay her in it.
